Shelia's Story
Shelia was born July 11, 1964 to Frank D. Disney and Alma Jean Taylor Disney. She and her sister, Sheri attended Nitro High School where she was a member of the Marching Band. After graduating from NHS in 1982 she attended Marshall University to pursue a degree in
Elementary Education. An opportunity with the State of West Virginia presented itself and Shelia left school early to focus on her career working with the Department of Health and Human Resources. She continued with the DHHR for over twenty years and enjoyed her work tremendously, and especially loved helping the children.
In 2000 she met her soul-mate, Aaron Wolfe, and they were married on June 8th the following year.
Aaron had a young daughter named Emily and Shelia enjoyed playing a significant role in helping raise her. Now Emily is a student at West Virginia State University located in the community of Institute, WV. Shelia would be proud to know that Emily is pursuing her degree in Child Psychology.
Sadly, in 2011, Shelia was diagnosed with liver cancer. Her battle included long trips out of state for treatments. Often she was forced to travel alone due to the fact that the expense of a traveling companion is not something that insurance companies take into consideration. Those solo trips were very hard on Shelia both physically and emotionally. She vowed that she would figure out a way to ease the financial burden on other cancer sufferers so they would not have to travel for treatment alone.
Shelia lost her brave battle against cancer. However, Aaron plans on keeping her name alive as well as her goals to garner assistance for so many other cancer patients and their families.
The Shelia Disney Wolfe Foundation exists to financially assist cancer patients and their families so that there is no longer the additional fear of traveling alone.
